Driving Directions
Memphis South Campground And RV Park Located on I-55 at exit 271 in Coldwater, MS. Take exit #271 and go west on Highway 306 for 1/10 mile. Take a left onto Campground Drive. Go 2/10 of a mile. Welcome to our RV Park. Our Hours are from 8 am until 10 am; and 4 pm until 8 pm 7 days a week.
Owners' motivation
Honduras
Janie, the owner of Memphis South Campground and RV Park, and her husband Dennis have been involved in bringing medicine, reading glasses, and other basic items to people in Honduras.
Janie and Dennis, who is a pharmacist, were inspired by a dentist friend of theirs, Bob Seymour, to go to Honduras. Bob kept inviting them to participate. Finally Dennis went with Bob on a mission trip and the next year Dennis went on his own and took Janie with him. They fell in love with doing this work. Because folks in certain areas of Honduras don't have access to travel to town to get basic items, Janie and Dennis give away free medication for headaches, free worm medicine (because the children are dying from worms that they get by drinking polluted water), reading glasses to help the people sew, read books and their Bibles, and work on small projects. These things really improve the quality of their lives. (They take a lot of reading glasses down to Honduras,as well as baseball caps and other things to give away!)
They have been doing missions independently since 1991 - Dennis went first, then the next year Janie went with him. The third year they took both of their young children and have been going back every year, some years with the whole family, some not; some years they have taken other people with them. More recently Janie and Dennis have worked with Bob Seymour and others developing a mission organization named Living Waters Honduras Mission which is involved in bringing clean water to areas of Honduras out on the Mosquito Coast.See Honduras mission trip.
Back at home
Even though Dennis retired a year ago, he still cares about people in need. A pharmacist near Cleveland, Mississippi, which is two hours away from their home, had gotten sick and needed somebody to fill in, and Dennis decided to help. Janie drives Dennis two hours to work on Thursdays and Fridays and she works out of her car and the local library while he works at the pharmacy.
Janie is bilingual and she and Dennis pick up several people to take to a Spanish speaking church some distance away every Sunday evening. All of their passion for helping people stems from their faith and joy in Jesus.
